“I created a design utilizing a series of recycling fountains, one feeding into the next, symbolizing the transference of water from one place to the next in an endless cycle of reclamation. The Wastewater [Management] building has been described as having a civil presence with a touch of art deco modernism. I carried those two features into the design for the bridge in its forms and in its materials. The forms restate some of the curves and articulations of the building and retain a similar, almost white color. The semi-circular stainless steel shapes on top of the stainless steel columns are reminiscent of the circular shapes over the portals of the building and might remind one of the moon and high tides. The long spouts which carry the water might remind one of old water pumps. The shapes, materials, and elaborate plumbing also make this a sculpture for plumbers.”
