Foot Bridge

Drake Street Bridge, Ft. Collins, Colorado
Enameled steel and patinated bronze (1997)
Commissioned by the City of Ft. Collins, Colorado

Laura created 27 original works for The Drake Road Foot Bridge project, each either replicated or was inspired by the feet in famous works of art. Works affixed to the side of the railings are based on details of actual art, such as Boticelli’s “Venus,” Picasso’s “Guernica,” and Rousseau’s “Sleeping Gypsy.” Sculptures on top of the rail are improvisations more loosely connected to actual work. For example, a bare male foot is taken from a reimagining of Edouard Manet’s “Le Dejeuner sur l’herbe” with the woman clothed and the men naked.
