Laura claimed to be a follower of the Cargo Cult of the South Seas Islands, which she had learned about from some older family members who served in the Pacific during WWII. According to Laura, the key tenet of Cargo Cultism is the importance of telling the Gods exactly what you want and thanking them for what you have gotten so far. In this Cargo Cult prayer, the images and words fall into four categories. The first is Laura’s plea that she be able to realize her full artistic potential and have a significant professional reputation. She depicts herself wrestling with large, three-dimensional objects near words requesting the motivation and independence to make great art. The second category depicts a tall young man near the words, “I want to be close to Paul, to be very good friends with him.” The third category depicts Laura in a heart-shaped space with a handsome but indistinct man with the words, “A mate, united, supportive relationship that allows individual growth, living together for at least a few years.” The final category depicts Laura rather like Wonder Woman with the words, “Good health, strong, energetic, for the rest of a long life.” Next to each of the four categories are the words, “Thanks. More please.”
